Sleep News
Dear Dr. Rosenberg,
My dad is a truck driver he snores and when not working he is always dozing off. I think he should be tested for sleep apnea but he is resistant. What do you think?
A: At present testing for sleep apnea is not mandated at the federal level. However, a recent study out of Italy showed that truckers with severe sleep apnea were five times more likely to be involved in accidents. The good news is that after two years of therapy, their accident rate dropped down to normal. I would recommend that for the sake of your dad and others he is evaluated for sleep apnea.
