Gratitude for Sleep: Note it Down for Better Sleep

It is naturally easy to think about the bad than the good, but would it be beneficial to our health if we focused on the positive side of life a little more? A study done to show the effect of gratitude on sleep showed that going to bed with a positive attitude led to better quality of sleep. Those who register and note the things they are grateful for are more likely to sleep better than those who do not.

While counting blessings is a good thing, it has its limits. A study showed that expressing gratitude once a week had positive results, but thrice a week was too many times and did not yield the same results. It is not for everyone either as those suffering loss and injustices may have a hard time finding something to be grateful for at that time.

Expressing gratitude is quite simple. Starting a journal to recount things you are truly thankful for is the first step towards building a positive attitude. Journaling before going to sleep gives you something positive to mull over and leaves you happy. You not only fall asleep faster, but you also enjoy better quality shuteye.

Having a hard time finding something to be grateful for? How about living in a peaceful country while millions on other parts of the world live in tents, afraid for their lives? Or the fact that your mind is stable and you can make sound decisions?
